Lost in Space – Karla Linn Merrifield

It’s let’s-see time.
Let’s see what’s in the dharmic
telescope.
Let’s see out there
that something in the Universe
is about to happen
to someone in the galactic somewhere.
I could be the one present,
cosmically inclined,
when it tumbles like magic.
Or you might be the one
to mystically greet this astral happening
someplace in between monkey brain
and Buddha mind.
It’s going to occur
in the middle of our orbit
any moment now,
from both sides now.
Light in the eye or Orion flashes,
fast-forwarding any number of us,
along with our dogs and husbands,
our kit and caboodle, our shebang—
We are catapulted
into the future as the Universe
lays on its big-bang whammy.
First, the Perseid meteor showers
right here on Planet Earth.
Then the black hole of death
some place somewhere without stars.
