Air date: Fri, 01/22/2021 – 11:00am to 12:00pm

On today’s show we celebrate our local independent publishers and the authors whose work they publish. We did a similar show about two years ago when we welcomed four Portland-based indies — Tin House, Future Tense Books, Hawthorne Books, and Forest Avenue Press — to the KBOO studios. While our studios have been closed during the pandemic, and will remain closed for the time being, the indie spirit persists.

And that indie spirit is well represented by our guests today – Dan Armstrong, publisher and author at Eugene’s Mud City Press; Kathleen McFall and Clark Hays, founders and authors of Portland’s Pumpjack Press; and Bobby Eversmann, Editor-in-Chief and author at Deep Overstock, a book publisher and literary journal, also based in Portland. Join us as we discuss the challenges of ramping up and running a literary press, while balancing the roles of authorship, editor, production, distribution, and promotion.

It’s another beautiful day in the neighborhood!
