I follow the trail
through the angry trees
as the wily wind whips leaves
off their skinny arms
and throws them to the ground.
The trail is littered with gold and brown
obscuring the path.
I am lost in a storm of coming autumn
and do not know
where my footsteps should fall–
enveloped in sunlight and cold–
alone beneath the undressing trees–
sensing winter.
