DNA AND by Aletha Irby

Eugene & Eugenia
On their honeymoon
Finally entwined
In the ampersand
Which separated
The italic lettering
Of their names
On wedding invitations
Supersede
The eugenics initiatives
Of sansevieria-tongued mothers-in-law
Eugenia’s ovum
A planet-sized Gordian Knot
Which Eugene’s spermatozoon
Pierces like Alexander’s sword
To procreate the jejune Euphrosyne
Who nonetheless will evolve rapidly
To befriend textile and tektite
Both terrestrial
And extraterrestrial texts
Who eschewing Iphigenian virtues
An Aegean Agamemnon’s
Drunken narcissistic blues
Will subject herself
To the syncopated clairaudience
Of her only unbidden muse
