Scissor Bee’s First Day – John Davis

Here is the light he was born into
fragile green glow
already in wind and leaves
day winding down
To open a tunnel of air
To hover above the clover
homeless in love
with the touch of earth
To waver in brush and weeds
Invincible flit of flight

John Davis is a polio survivor and the author of Gigs and The Reservist. His work has appeared recently in DMQ Review, Iron Horse Literary Review, and Terrain.org. He lives on an island in the Salish Sea.
