As it chews
through
the nursery
loaves,
hatching brood
tunnels through
an immaculate darkness
immured with
careful clippings.
Its birth into
the light bristles
with a certainty
unknown to us
who wake
into an opacity
so densely vacuous
that we subsist
on sifted memories.
