The Spring equinox
has come and gone
green shafts
of iris and tulip
have stabbed through
layers of earth. Yellow heads
of daffodils and purple
flashes of crocus
have opened to the sun.
Yet here it is the first day
of April and the wind
chill is twenty three.
We’ve had scattered
flurries, and I wonder
what this flash frost
will mean for the bees.
