Hawthorns – Kate Meyer-Currey

New stars flicker in the late spring hedges
as hawthorns glimmer bright white against
grey skies still sullen with winter as their
stamens blink in the chilly east wind that
gusts and makes the fresh leaves shiver
as bluebells drift the banks, a cerulean
promise of cloudless summer heavens.

Kate Meyer-Currey was born in 1969 and moved to Devon in 1973. A varied career in frontline settings has fueled her interest in gritty urbanism, contrasted with a rural upbringing. Her ADHD also instills a sense of ‘other’ in her life and writing.
