三滴水: Drops of Water – Alice

人的一生能隐藏多少秘密呢?

泪水滴滴答答地像在轻数

大海又包容了多少人的秘密呢?

它以惊涛也拟波浪地诉说

从不停止

How many secrets can one ocean hold?

Tears break like a ticking clock.¹

How many secrets can one life hold?

It breaks in waves [and more] waves.

It will not stop.

translated by Bobby

¹ Literal translation: tears tick tock like counting time. —though the composition of characters is really ingenious here because the symbol for didi (or ‘tick’) have the three drops of water radical, as of course do tears and any form of liquid.

Alice can fly. She is a teacher in Nanjing, China, but she is from Chengdu. I climbed the mountain once in Chengdu. We started at six o’clock at reached the monastery after midnight. The monastarey was closed. All the inns were closed. We found one full of ghosts (we knew because, when they turned our backs to us, they disappeared) and when they turned around again to face us, show us the beds, the beds were wet and black with mold. We ran from the ghosts and in the morning met monkeys living on the mountain.
